FIFA World Cup 2010 Diaries : Day 1 – 3

The world cup is in its 3rd day and only one team has impressed so far. The way the Germans are dissecting the Aussies is laudable. Is it the utter german superiority or the abysmal Aussies sporting their oldest squad, it’s a question but the Germans are mercurial.

The English have lived to their reputation of flattering, but the finishing qualities of Lampard, Rooney and Heskey let them down. It is difficult to win World cups without superior goal keepers unless you have attacks to steam roll any opposition defense. So the progress of the British beyond the Quarters seems difficult.

The French too have begun on a traditionally cold note. Unless Grandpa Domenech shows some valor and attacking intent with 2 strikers, none of the French strikers seem capable of piercing opposition goal on a stand alone basis.

Still we have to see the Brazilians, Spaniards and the Dutch and the Azzuris in action, but Germany have stated their intent in this world cup like no other team.
