Star MAAZA

This morning STAR MAAZA’s every news telecast is preceded with a short clip. Some very high quality stuff made by high quality directors. Stuff of which big budget bollywood movie trailers are made of. High pitched jingoistic marathi theme music (aka Sarkar style),translucent Images of Raj thackerey’s face moving in slow motion, against the back drop of gory images of violence.
Raj Thackerey was arrested this morning on charges of inciting violence and making inflammatory speeches. The criminal conduct doesn’t deserve the kind of glamorization the media seems to have provided because it meets the very objective of these stunts masterminded by the political parties. But with the plethora of the news channels that are free to air, it is hard to imagine how a channel can garner viewership without spicing things up.
I can’t believe how this cut throat competition amongst the news channels provides boundless gratis creative ads for the politicians. The Question is how smart and bold you can be to exploit this vast available resource. So, don’t be surprised if other political parties join-in to cash-in. The only looser in this is the poor tax payer whose tax Rs will pay for the repairs to public property. The court should set some precedent while ruling this case by asking the political party to foot the bills for the damage as per the provisions in the current legislations.

PS: I could'nt find the exact clip I was mentioning but here is something similar!

Fashion Street (Pune)

Fashion Street [Pune]

It is just fascinating, the variety of stuff you can buy at fashion street Pune MG Road. Everything that fits the range of a super-super mall can bought. For me the most luring section was the shop exhibiting team jerseys. Anything with a famous name sells in India and hence the famous names generally end up on different team jerseys. I was amazed to see this kid in a Barcelona jersey with #13 Ballack on the back. On my trip to the street I encountered another hilarious one – an orange Chelsea jersey with #10 Rooney. However I was lucky enough to find an exact replica of the German #13 Ballack jersey. The shopkeeper was glib to quote INR 450 (USD 9). I would have been happy to pay the price but from my experience told me that there was plenty of room for negotiation and I bided for INR 100. After minor haggling the shopkeeper asked for 150 and we settled for it. Quite a steal J:)

Policy change at HPD?

Its 2009 and the recession seems to have caught up big time with the Houston Police. No longer you see the cop cars patrolling the roads to maintain L&O. Its more of car cops hidden behind street dumpsters or prowling at roadside parking lots or street intersections, all waiting for unsuspecting drivers to make a small mistake and earn the quick buck. The state funding seems to be frozen in this credit crunch and it looks like the poor tax payer is going to bear the brunt of financing the HPD. Be careful my friends, traffic tickets are being issued for 5mph exceedence!
