You just can't miss this!

The clash of titans in sports is a real world fantasy!
Imagine: Sampras vs Federer
The WI team of 80s against the current Aussies
Man U on current form against Barcelona!

Come this Sunday we have the Colts vs the Patriots and it is as big as anything else in sports can get. Both teams are ranked in top 4 in offense ans defense and are on form with a 7-0 record this season. Moreover it is going to be a clash of the best two Quarters backs in the game.
Manning has established is reputation over all these years. His 13/3 Touchdown/Interception figures this season could have been a record but the extremely talented Tom Brady with 30/2 makes him look like a novice. The colts are last year’s champions but definitely the underdogs in this clash.

You better be on a heavenly excursion if you are not watching next Sunday. It is simply not worth missing!

Starting on the wrong foot!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Industrial revolution coupled with the evolution of complex analytical techniques has made possible building of colossal structures and magnificent machines. It has revolutionized the way we live and helped in improving the quality of life. Be it a sturdier and safer automotive design or a massive bridge structure over the ocean or a day to day utility like a refrigerator – everything is a result of this revolution. However with this revolution has increased the appetite of the mankind to consume the ever depleting natural resources of metals, petroleum and other energy sources. The scarcity of these resources has necessitated the development of innovative designs that can function efficiently. A light weight automobile is a good example of such a design. Such design has multiple advantages of being highly fuel efficient, costing less apart from saving valuable resources of steel."

This is how intended the first para of my thesis to be until some one pointed out it to be utterly needless and unrelated. ;)

Its got to be in the colors!

A die hard Indian cricket team fan (once upon a time- or just recently until the Men in blue drooped to the levels of stinking hell) !

A passionate supporter of Italian football team since1994 !

An ardent Chelsea fan since 2000 !

One thing in common about all teams is their blue attire!

Also a hater of Zimbabwean cricket team [mainly cos they always singled out team India for their special treatment] a recent basher of the Windies cricket team. And a die hard Man U hater

Again the common factor - All Reds!

However the Red bashing is somewhat sober because of the affection towards Liverpool FC

One hell of a Paradise!

Spring break in US is big! I regret that I didn’t realize this until my final semester and will rue the fact that I missed “1” huge spring break from my college days last year. Let bygones be bygones, this is the story of my spring break ’07.
We took a trip down to south padre islands located very close to the Mexico border. The driving experience was a revelation with the beauty of the landscape going up a few notches with every approaching mile. The Mexican landscape with its varied hues and palm trees reminded me of the Konkan side on the Indian west coast. But this stuff was from the animations – picture perfect - blend of modern architectures in natural beauty, it didn’t have the rustic feel of Konkan, nevertheless it was inspiring to say the least.

Our stay was in Brownsville – 2o miles from the island. Thou this wasn’t the best scenario in terms of spending majority time on the island, we enjoyed the 2 mile ride over the sea every day we made our way towards the island. The ride - over the colossal bridge with its looping arches for ship transit over the blues waters, the waves playing the music and sea breeze in its full glory - made the 5 minutes an overwhelming experience. This was the stuff they make convertibles for!!!
On the island the traffic was a mess, understandably, but once we managed to park our vehicle the fun began. The ivory white sands and the blue waters are a sight to see. The water temperature is just a degree below bearable and that serves a dampener to the wetting experience. On the beach we could see people having a time of their life. Beach football, I mean soccer, is a prime sports and we enjoyed a good game. Every now and then we had a few passerby’s (m/f) joining in to kick the ball. However the most soothing experience is to lie in those sands doing nothing and you’ll never feel like going back.

One thing not worth missing in South Padre is the drive along the Padre Blvd. A 7 mile ride on it leads you to a dead end. This road culminates leaving you into a vast solitude of pleasure and blithe. There’s something about this place, may be the vibration, the frequencies or the wind over it. Surrounded with sand dunes perfect for 4x4 sports, endless stretch of land in front of your eyes and endless watery ocean on either side, the loneliness of this place makes like a beautiful after death experience. I guess I am getting a bit spiritual about it, but nothing can match that feel.

Moving on to more material stuff, the night life in padre is rocking. “Chaos” is certainly the place to be on Friday nights of your spring break, with all the “crazy” stuff happening galore. The food was disappointing, partly because of my high hopes from “Sea-food” especially after tasting the Ratnagiri sea food just a couple of months ago.

To sum it up “South Padre” is one hell of a paradise in this part of the world – everyone must experience at least one spring break in Padre!

Nervous starters , beware!!

Rahul Dravid believes that the Indian cricket team can make it to the semi-finals of the WC and from there on anythings posible. Very few Indian supporters will contest Rahuls' belief. I will love if that happens!
Casually, I do believe there should be no reason for India doing good this time, but then they have to start off their campaign in the right way. India have been nervous starters in major tournaments and they can little afford to do it this time. That makes the first match with Bangladesh very crucial. Bangladeshis have been giant killers in the past, their recent form is good and the recent win over NZ shud keep them interested. God forbiid, but if India end up on their hit-list, a defeat against Sri-Lanka will cut the long story short and India cud be on the way home even before the "real" world cup begins. So, nervous starters, India better watch out and play well against Bangla! ALL the Best!

Life at 36500'

Flying in a plane doesn’t give you a feeling different than sitting in your living room (unless of course you hit an air turbulence) until you take a look at the specs: Altitude 36000 feet, ground speed 0.87 mach (1065 Kmph in SI) and ambient temperature of -65 deg C, You are in hostile territory!

Air travel this time around was fun , cause it wasn’t my first time, abnormal landings with a twin thud of the wheels dint made me nervous, but most important of all I was heading home rather than away from it. The flight atmosphere in the final stretch was jovial for a change and Deltas’ “please india” strategy was in taste with all of us. The Indian crew, Indian food and movies had already given a hint of things to come. The pilots attempt to speak Hindi even though he was a Gujju, was very affable, he did from time to time reminded of his linguistic descent by his naive attempts to ask for excuses for his atypical hindi: “Deviyo aur sajjano, apnee kurse kee peeth seedhe karle aur seat belts baand le, Jahaaj utarne ke liye taiyaar hain”, people applauded the landing and the final announcement “Bharat ke New York, Mumbai shahar me aapka swaagat hain” was very cool- Love you Delta for that , It was a treat flying on the NY- Mumbai flight!

However the return journey was equally terrible and hated Delta for all the delays and missed baggages and was terrified by the fact that we had narrowly missed a mid air collision on the Atlanta- Houston flight !!!!!!!

Incredible India!

Incredible India!
22 runs to win, Dhoni batting on 28 of 47 balls – Commentator “Dhoni has played an inning such out of character in the interest of the team ….” Next ball dhoni plays a maverick slog such “in-character” and get bowled stunning and silencing the crowd – camera rolls on to the spectators showing despaired fans – Commentator “The crowd goes silent as another wicket…..” this is when the the section of fans on your screen start celebrating – waving at the cameras as they see themselves on the large screen, such is India – Incredible.
My first impression during my first few days of India visit was – changed, the country has changed drastically, but then a closer look, and the changes seemed only superficial, cosmetic and purporting to the microcosm of urban and corporate India. We have graduated from one lane to 6 lane roads but we still drive on the lane separators, we have glass dressed buildings but we still spit on no spitting boards, people still smoke in public places with no consideration for others, large corporate have tall aristocratic buildings with lawns and pools with no consideration for the neighborhoods and roads around the area- but are the first to complain about the worsening traffic and power situation. This particular grievance is addressed to IT companies who are so obsessed with comforting their employees - devise fancy ways of compensating them so that they can evade income tax and then expect government to take care of various issues. Adopt a mile of highway culture; industry government co-operation is nowhere to be seen.
One of the surprising developments was my reluctance to buy multinational products in India. When I went around comparing the prices of products like Pepsi , coke, McDonalds, Reebok in India there is no major difference in the prices in India and US in fact some are costlier in India. Now if you compare how much an average Indian and an American earns, buying these in India is like some outrageously prodigal expenditure. However equally baffling is how we don’t mind spending on this stuff.
So what more, On the tube the plethora of news channel is mind boggling and the content even more so, everyone wants to feed in live happening of violence – gory picture showing the agony and atrocities, the crime rate in urban India and the problem compounded by non existent law and order. A pathetic and hilarious happening today, Samajwadi party workers attacking American tourists over the execution of Saddam hussain, now who were the American tourists? Indians like me visiting the country, so Indians attacking Indians over Saddam execution. Saddam Hussain Jindabaad slogans complimentary with the stone pelting …….
So is everything so bad out here ? No…….there are many pleasant things around …. The economic boom is so inspiring, the country is marching towards prosperity and the Indian girls seemed more beautiful than ever before ;)
